Relight Light My Fiah

These electronic gubbins from Boyer Bransden are hopefully going to bring my XS back to life. The kit includes a Zener diode capacitor (the blue thingy) so I can junk my dead battery - that saves 5kg. Another pace forward in it's health and diet regime. BP

Purely coincidental that it follows a post on The Cremators.

I need this!

Ben, I'm sure the kit will let you junk the battery (you weren't going to use an electric start were you? Just more weight to lose after all) but it won't be down to the Zener diode. A Zener diode is just a voltage regulator, and they've stopped old British heaps combusting for many years.

I imagine your non - battery status will be down to the black object in the picture, possibly a capacitor discharge unit of some sort?

Great for producing sparks but not so hot if it's your only source of electricity and you feel the need for bothersome stuff like lights. Probably not a major concern for Dirt Quake.....

I spoke to the tech guy at BB who left me for techno dust after about 3 sentences. But this kit was put together for me, to use in conjunction with a modern 3-phase constant magnet alternator conversion (and a modern regulator-rectifier), which produces more reliable and plentiful voltage.

The black thing at the top is just a twin coil, and the bottom is just a simple heat-sink bracket.

Starter was junked years ago, and I don't need to listen to the radio/have the heater on/or honk the horn when the engine is not running.

Ah, the old "3-phase constant magnet alternator conversion" trick, you should have said so!

I'm wanting to junk a lot of the electrickery on the Bullet eventually - mostly for aesthetic reasons, but I'm damned if a fool like me can make head or tail of this stuff.

I may have to ask an older boy to do it for me...

You do mean Zener right? Zenna could be easily mistaken for Xena - the warrior princess - who might actually be a great advantage, with her spartan sword to hack away at fellow competitors at Dirt Quake

my mistake Josh (now corrected). And Yes having Xena along for the ride would be nice.

hey ho! is the charging system and new BB ignition working? I'm going down the same route.

I am still waiting on an XS specific 24mm internal thread (1mm pitch) Alternator puller, before I can up-grade to a YPVS set-up and complete my BB wiring revision. New blog post will follow.
